Beach Holidays in Puerto Pollensa Majorca
Posted on January 09, 2011Enjoy some Roman History With Your Majorcan Holiday
When you go to Majorca for your summer holiday it’s tempting to spend the whole fortnight on the beach near your hotel basking in the sun but if you do get tired of staring at the sun kissed bodies playing Frisbee or just lazing about on the sand then you may want to investigate some of the island’s history.
In Puerto Pollensa holidays are mainly spent by the sea, day s on the beaches and evenings eating at the best restaurants on the island, nights clubbing away but just a little inland is the old town of Pollensa itself, founded in the 13 th century but built mainly in the 17 th and 18 th centuries a little inland to avoid pirates and buccaneers. The streets and passages are nice and narrow which means that there is always plenty of shade as you explore until you get to the squares, the principal being the Plasa Major where you’ll find many cafes. The plasa is dominated by the 13 th century church Our Lady Of The Angels which was built for the Knights Templar. Just north of the plasa is the stairway consisting 365 step which leads to the Calvary chapel. If you’re in town on Good Friday you can witness the Easter ceremony in which an enactment of the crucifixion takes place, they re-enact the Stations of the Cross and there is a silent torch lit parade, the only sound to be heard is the sombre beating of a solitary drum.
If you’re going to stay in the region you can either go to one of the many hotels that are available by the port itself or, if you’re more inclined to villa holidays there are beautiful villas in Alcudia, the municipality in which Pollensa and Puerto Pollensa lie in the NE of the island.
Pollensa, or Pollentia as it was known then was originally a Roman settlement and to the north or the town you can still visit the Roman bridge which traverses the torrents that form part of the Sant Jordi river.
Getting to Pollensa is easy with all year round cheap flights to Palma from most UK regional airports.
Beware – The Hidden Costs to Budget Air Tickets
Posted on January 06, 2011When you buy a cheap flight with a budget airline – Don’t expect any frills or customer service!
The cost of flying has increased rapidly in recent years, due mainly to rising aviation fuel costs, staff costs, maintenance costs and airport taxes. The price to the traveler has also been affected by natural disasters such as the Icelandic volcano eruption and climate change emission controls. Flight tickets and the costs of getting from A to B can be very expensive if you do not follow certain purchasing guidelines.
Whether you are going on holiday or a regular business traveler, no matter what your destination or reason for travelling, you will want to take advantage of cheap flights. Cheap Flights are in theory great for the pocket, but what are the downsides and hidden costs to purchasing tickets from budget or low cost airlines?
Perhaps the biggest disadvantage of buying cheap airfares is the ability to travel at the exact departure time or your choice or arrive at your destination at a reasonable hour. Most cheaper flights either depart in the very early hours of the morning or arrive at the resort airport in the middle of the night. Not an ideal solution if you are travelling with children or have a business meeting to attend!
Similarly, which day of the week you travel is going to affect the price of your ticket. Fridays, the Weekends and Mondays are the most busiest periods and low-cost flights are difficult to obtain over these periods due to the demand for commuter seats. Cheap budget airline flights can usually only be purchased in off peak periods on days in the middle of the week, which is usually unsuitable for holidays as accommodations are let from one Weekend to the next.
If you plan to travel during any of the holiday periods or when the children are off school, then budget flights are not a option. Nearly all airlines raise their ticket prices during these periods of high demand.
Don’t expect the familiar onboard service of old with Air Hostess attention. Budget Airlines keep their staff to a minimum to reduce costs and consequently on board facilities and service are often poor. Food is not usually included in the price of a cheap air seat and you will pay a premium for an alcoholic drink, sandwich or beverage. Seating space has been reduced in most low cost aircraft and you should prepare for more cramped conditions.
Other downsides to buying a cheap flight ticket are very low baggage weight restrictions. Often on commuter routes this is restricted to one piece of hand luggage. If you wish to put bags in the cargo hold, you will pay a premium.
Make sure that you understand how far the destination airport is from the city before you purchase your ticket. Large cities like London or New York may have many airports serving them, some which can be over 100 kilometres from the city centre. Often the costs of rail transit are as much as the cheap fare so it is worth checking this out before you book!
Although the risk of injury can not be said to be higher for cheaper air tickets, however in certain poorer countries safety concerns have plagued low cost air operators in the past, and it is true to say that large national carriers such as Qantas have a better safety record than some of their smaller neighbours.
Remember if it’s cheap, it’s cheap for a reason! If you are prepared to put yourself out a little bit and be flexible with your travel conditions, then cheap airfares can be a great way to see and experience more of the World!
Whether you are looking for cheap flights to Palma for some sun, or cheap flights to Prague for a stag do, or cheap flights to Belfast for shopping, look around for flight offers and deals on the Internet, and visiting a comparison website will inevitably save you money.

It’s easy to get to Disneyland Paris by train or plane!
Posted on November 05, 2010Disneyland Paris
Should I take the Eurostar or Fly to Orly?
Train or Plane? There are currently some great deals to be had however you travel and both Eurostar and the tour operators are offering cheap Disneyland Paris Packages, and the kids go free….
We have done both now. Both of which the children loved but the train I think is the best. You arrive wham bam in the middle of the Disneyland complex the village one end hosting most of the hotels unless you are really lucky and you are staying at the Disneyland Hotel. An amazing hotel right on the Disneyland doorstep. Who needs fast passes you are right at the entrance and are able to see the enchanted castle the parades the whole complex. A real fairyland experience.
The other resort hotels are just as exciting but there is a walk through the village and past other hotels to get to the furthest the Newport Bay. Some Disneyland Paris hotels further out need buses to get in.
The Disneyland village is exciting hosting an array of restaurants. The Rainforest Café is a must! How can food be that exciting I have never seen a restaurant with so many quietly eating children all waiting to see what was going to happen next! Its is an experience in itself. Take some time out in their shop you never know who will slide down from the ceiling to see what you are buying. The Disneyland Village also has other eating events like the Buffalo Wild West Restaurant and show yeh ha! There are also a multitude of arcade areas, rides, outside music and bands on the stage area. The wonderful Disney shop where you are able to buy all the hard to get Disney merchandise is another must it is being in Disney heaven.
The great thing with the village is that every day is different. The constant stream of new and leaving visitors. The early birds who take the morning stroll to buy fastpasses. The evenings, filled with tired little faces and the sound of a band or impromptu show and better still all through the day you never know who you will bump into Mickey? Cinderella? What a dream!
Disneyland Paris packages are available now for Christmas and Santa with up to 40% off the standard price and kids go free!
