Beach Holidays in Puerto Pollensa Majorca
Posted on January 09, 2011Enjoy some Roman History With Your Majorcan Holiday
When you go to Majorca for your summer holiday it’s tempting to spend the whole fortnight on the beach near your hotel basking in the sun but if you do get tired of staring at the sun kissed bodies playing Frisbee or just lazing about on the sand then you may want to investigate some of the island’s history.
In Puerto Pollensa holidays are mainly spent by the sea, day s on the beaches and evenings eating at the best restaurants on the island, nights clubbing away but just a little inland is the old town of Pollensa itself, founded in the 13 th century but built mainly in the 17 th and 18 th centuries a little inland to avoid pirates and buccaneers. The streets and passages are nice and narrow which means that there is always plenty of shade as you explore until you get to the squares, the principal being the Plasa Major where you’ll find many cafes. The plasa is dominated by the 13 th century church Our Lady Of The Angels which was built for the Knights Templar. Just north of the plasa is the stairway consisting 365 step which leads to the Calvary chapel. If you’re in town on Good Friday you can witness the Easter ceremony in which an enactment of the crucifixion takes place, they re-enact the Stations of the Cross and there is a silent torch lit parade, the only sound to be heard is the sombre beating of a solitary drum.
If you’re going to stay in the region you can either go to one of the many hotels that are available by the port itself or, if you’re more inclined to villa holidays there are beautiful villas in Alcudia, the municipality in which Pollensa and Puerto Pollensa lie in the NE of the island.
Pollensa, or Pollentia as it was known then was originally a Roman settlement and to the north or the town you can still visit the Roman bridge which traverses the torrents that form part of the Sant Jordi river.
Getting to Pollensa is easy with all year round cheap flights to Palma from most UK regional airports.

Nile Cruises In Egypt – Making Your Egypt Travel Dreams Come True
Posted on November 21, 2010Egypt is a wonderfully versatile country with a fantastic heritage , and what better way is there to receive the magic of this beautiful land than by enjoying one of the numerous Nile River cruises on offer? You’ll find a terrific pick available, with something to suit all pockets and all tastes – from short, budget trips affordable tours affordable trips through to gentle, luxurious cruises.
But why, exactly, should you take a Nile river cruise over another form of traveling the country? And what ancient sights await you along the lengths of Nile in Egypt ?
Why Take A Nile Cruise?
There are many ways to tour Egypt, but for those interested primarily in the ancient and Pharaonic history of Egypt , Nile cruises are among the best choices. This is because a visitor will travel in the same fashion as the ancients, and also make many stops to view the most well-known or even lesser known sites, temples and locations as well.
If your main concern is comfort and convenience, then you should definitely consider a cruise as the way to discover Egypt. With most motorbus tours, you’d be stopping every night at a different hotel, having to pack and unpack morning and night, as well as keeping to a fairly tight time table.
Spending several hours sitting on a coach each day is not everyone’s cup of tea – however comfortable the coach. The beauty of Nile River cruises is that your hotel is also your means of transport. You establish your home base in your cabin and then are free to do with your day what you will – whether that be relaxing on deck with a cool drink or exploring tremendous tombs and temples ashore.
This leads on to another reward of cruises, and that is their flexibility. Maybe you already know Egypt well and don’t wish to sightsee further. In that case, you’ll find plenty on offer on board ship. But, if getting to know the country’s heritage is your main reason for your vacation , then most Nile cruisers can easily arrange excursions and tours for you at all ports of call.
You’ll also enjoy the atmosphere on Nile cruise ships. Ships which cruise the River Nile tend to be relatively small – not like some of the huge liners which cross the oceans. This results in a wonderfully intimate, friendly atmosphere, where you get to know one another and become a big family. Yet the ships are also large enough to offer plenty of amenities, fine food, and comfortable accommodation.
Finally, with the tremendous choice of cruises available, you should certainly be able to find something to fit your budget and specifications.
What To See?
Cruising the Nile you’ll enjoy the sites, temples and tombs located along the particular stretch of the River you’re travelling – and it’s about the only way to visit southerly Egypt. Cruises tend to be three, four or seven nights in length, the shorter ones between Luxor and Aswan, the longer ones journeying further north. Obviously, the longer your cruise, the more you’ll get to see and the further north you go, several combining cruising with flights and land tours – sometimes to fairly remote areas.
If you’re after something slightly different, you may wish to experience sailing by “felucca”. A felucca is a typical Egyptian sailing boat – but accommodation and amenities are certainly not as luxurious as the cruise ships.
One thing’s for sure, whichever of the Nile River cruises you choose, you’ll have the experience of a lifetime and surely fall in love with the magical land of Cleopatra and the Pharaohs.
Egypt Nile Cruises: Luxury Holidays While Cruising the Nile River
Explore five thousand years of history while you travel the Nile River! This Egypt Nile cruises information section has been designed to help visitors select the right cruise for their needs and interests.
Taking Luxury Nile Cruises in Egypt is a great way to really enjoy your Egypt tour. Nile cruisers in Egypt are often luxurious (5 star).

The Museo Arqueológico de la Costa Grande (Archeological Museum of the Costa Grande) is located at the southern end of the municipal beach and the Paseo de los Pescadores. It has six rooms that document the history, archeology and culture of this part of the Guerrero coast. Many of the artifacts are from as far away as the Olmec and Toltec civilizations, as both explored this area.
Aside from tourism, fishing continues to be a way of life for a large number of families, bringing in seafood such as shark, clams, oysters, red snapper, bass and mugil. The increasing popularity of the area as a sportfishing destination has given new impetus to their livelihood, and traditional fishing is being supplemented with fish farms. A visit to Venice Italy
Posted on November 13, 2010A Visit to Venice – The City built on water.
When you first arrive in Venice from the long airport drive across the lagoon, the maze of streets and canals can be quite confusing, however after a day or two the geography of Venice becomes clear.
The city of Venice is divided into six areas or “sestiere” spreading over a wide area of the lagoon that forms the North westerly corner of the Adriatic sea.
These are Cannaregio, San Polo, Dorsoduro (including the Giudecca and Isola Sacca Fisola), Santa Croce, San Marco (including San Giorgio Maggiore) and Castello (including San Pietro di Castello and Sant’Elena). Each sestiere was administered by a procurator and his staff.

These districts consist of parishes — initially seventy in 1033, but reduced under Napoleon and now numbering just thirty-eight. These parishes predate the sestieri, which were created in about 1170.
Other islands of the Venetian Lagoon do not form part of any of the sestieri, having historically enjoyed a considerable degree of autonomy.
The rising water and sinking City
Sometimes the Tide reachs levels which causes difficulties for the residents. With very high tide the sea water floods sidewalks and ground floor of buildings, and boats do not pass under the bridge (blocking of public transport, etc.) With very low tide, motorboats can not move (public transport, ambulance, firemen vehicles, taxi, etc.). For this, the Tide Forecast in Venice has an office that plays an important role, because the accuracy of prediction is very important.
In the fall, especially in October and November, it very often happens that the tide rises and the water overflows the banks of the canals, flooding the city: the foundations, the alleyways, the fields, the ground floor of the houses, the churches and the shops. The rising water is a problem for the Venetians but it is an unusual, exciting experience for tourists as it is a unique event. Seeing Piazza San Marco flooded by a still lake of water is most certainly a unique, magical moment, which has been immortalized several times over the years by famous photographers.
Finding your way around a maze of alleys, bridges and side streets
The names of the calli, campi and campielli (lanes, squares and little squares in Venice)
Each sestiere has its own house numbering system. Each house has a unique number in the district, from one to several thousand, generally numbered from one corner of the area to another, but not usually in a readily understandable manner.
The Venetian Calli have unusual names that are usually either taken from the city’s history or from an event that took place right on the very spot, or from the jobs of the people who lived in that lane or square. The names of the streets are written on small white squares that are placed on the outside of the buildings and that are called “nizioleti” (tissues).
Take a trip on the Gondolas
Gondolas are one of Venice’s most famous symbols worldwide. This typical Venetian boat is extremely ancient and is the result of a series of extremely complex craft techniques. A gondola is 11 meters long and weighs 600 kilograms. In spite of its considerable weight it is quite ease to maneuver by just one person using a single oar. We recommend you visit the Squero (boatyard) at San Trovaso where gondolas are still made today by the master craftsmen using the ancient techniques.
Venice hotels and Accommodation
Finding suitable Venice Hotels for your vacation is easy if you visit a hotel comparison website where you can choose your Venetian location and compare room rates for virtually all the hotels in Venice. Venice offers a complete range of hotels from the five star luxury hotels located around St Marks Square and the Waterfront to more homely small hotels dotted across the city.
Getting there!
Getting to Venice is easy with flights to Marco Polo airport from most international destinations. If you are looking for last minute cheap flights to Venice check out the low cost european airlines such as Bmibaby.com or Easy jet.

It’s easy to get to Disneyland Paris by train or plane!
Posted on November 05, 2010Disneyland Paris
Should I take the Eurostar or Fly to Orly?
Train or Plane? There are currently some great deals to be had however you travel and both Eurostar and the tour operators are offering cheap Disneyland Paris Packages, and the kids go free….
We have done both now. Both of which the children loved but the train I think is the best. You arrive wham bam in the middle of the Disneyland complex the village one end hosting most of the hotels unless you are really lucky and you are staying at the Disneyland Hotel. An amazing hotel right on the Disneyland doorstep. Who needs fast passes you are right at the entrance and are able to see the enchanted castle the parades the whole complex. A real fairyland experience.
The other resort hotels are just as exciting but there is a walk through the village and past other hotels to get to the furthest the Newport Bay. Some Disneyland Paris hotels further out need buses to get in.
The Disneyland village is exciting hosting an array of restaurants. The Rainforest Café is a must! How can food be that exciting I have never seen a restaurant with so many quietly eating children all waiting to see what was going to happen next! Its is an experience in itself. Take some time out in their shop you never know who will slide down from the ceiling to see what you are buying. The Disneyland Village also has other eating events like the Buffalo Wild West Restaurant and show yeh ha! There are also a multitude of arcade areas, rides, outside music and bands on the stage area. The wonderful Disney shop where you are able to buy all the hard to get Disney merchandise is another must it is being in Disney heaven.
The great thing with the village is that every day is different. The constant stream of new and leaving visitors. The early birds who take the morning stroll to buy fastpasses. The evenings, filled with tired little faces and the sound of a band or impromptu show and better still all through the day you never know who you will bump into Mickey? Cinderella? What a dream!
Disneyland Paris packages are available now for Christmas and Santa with up to 40% off the standard price and kids go free!
